This year the William P. Clements Department of History had the special privilege of celebrating the incredible career of distinguished SMU historian Dan Orlovsky.

For 48 years, Orlovsky made an indelible impact on our campus as a professor of history and the George Bouhe Research Fellow in Russian Studies. His contributions went far beyond the classroom – he led the SMU-in-Oxford program since the 1980s and served as chair of the University Athletics Council for over 20 years, enriching the experiences of countless Mustang students, faculty and staff.

To honor Orlovsky’s remarkable legacy and his dedication to scholarship and mentorship, the University established the Dan Orlovsky Lecture in Russian Studies endowment within the William P. Clements Department of History. This endowment will ensure that Orlovsky’s passion for history and Russian studies will continue to inspire future generations at SMU.
