Undergraduate Research at SMU

One of the most memorable and academically enriching opportunities for an SMU student is an experience working with a faculty member on their research. These relationships stretch the imagination, sharpen student research skills, and pave the way for exciting graduate school opportunities and careers. The Undergraduate Research Program at SMU’s Office of Engaged Learning supports such opportunities in various ways, such as matching financial awards through faculty and departmental grant funds and the prestigious Hamilton Scholarship (administered by the Dedman College Interdisciplinary Institute), and supporting senior design projects at the Lyle School of Engineering. You can help our office to expand undergraduate research opportunities through:

1. General giving*

2. $1,500 to match funds for a yearlong Undergraduate Research Assistantship

3. 3,000 to fully fund a yearlong Undergraduate Research Assistantship

*Give today or fund a larger (and named) initiative for Undergraduate Research Assistantships. Contact Jennifer Ebinger, Director of the Office of Engaged Learning, jebinger@smu.edu; or Laurie Ann Ross, Director of Development for General Giving, laross@smu.edu.
