Your Gift Makes a Difference!
The SMU Student Emergency Fund (SEF) provides critical financial assistance to students facing unexpected hardships, such as medical emergencies, natural disasters or unexpected personal challenges. SEF also funds SMU’s food pantry, The Shop. Your gift to the SEF ensures that Mustangs can focus on their education and well-being, even during life’s toughest moments. In past years, grants from the Student Emergency Fund have funded a variety of needs, including: • Prescriptions and other costs related to emergency medical care • Living expenses for a student who was unexpectedly laid off (such as one month’s rent, electricity and water) • Travel costs associated with the death or illness of a family member • Replacement of essential personal belongings following an emergency • Car repairs for a student who had no other form of reliable transportation The Student Emergency Fund can truly change the lives of students who experience an unexpected financial crisis – students who receive funding are able to then focus on meeting their academic and other obligations and continue as an SMU student.
