Every year, the Nu Iota chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. hosts Delta Week, a weeklong series consisting of four to five events aimed to inform, empower and support our SMU community. Nu Iota takes creative approaches to adhere to Delta Sigma Theta’s five-point programmatic pillars when engaging with students. These include:
1. Economic development
2. Educational development
3. International awareness and involvement
4. Physical and mental health
5. Political awareness and involvement
Delta Week culminates with our annual Steps for Autism Walk in partnership with the Hatching Hope Foundation. Our walk raises autism awareness in the community by educating the public and families experiencing autism on where to find quality resources. This is especially important in areas that lack autism-focused aid. We are a chapter of four members with limited financial resources.
The funds raised during SMU Giving Day will be used towards the following programming expenses:
- Food and beverages
- Speakers and guests
- Vendors and partnerships
- Event decor and equipment for engaging activities
- Promotion and ads
With over 300 attendees during last year's events, these funds will help us serve the increasingly growing number of participants over the course of the week. Given that this is a staple event for our organization, we would like to ensure that our SMU community and external community partners have a great experience.
