DataFest Hackathon

Each year, the American Statistical Association (ASA) holds DataFest, a 3-day, 2-night competition (or “hackathon”) that provides a venue for talented and imaginative undergraduate data science students to showcase their ability to mine meaningful insights from complex data sets. Students present their findings to invited industry professionals who select overall winners for Best in Show, Best Visualization, and Best Use of External Data.

Last year, SMU hosted the first ever DataFest in the state of Texas. Gifts to this fund will help the Statistical Science Department host and provide teams from across the state of Texas with mentors, presenters, food, awards, and technical support at DataFest again this year.

Donors who give a gift of $75 or more will receive a free SMU DataFest t-shirt and will be listed as a sponsor on the DataFest program. Please ‘like’ the SMU Statistical Science page on Facebook to receive updates about DataFest and other department activities.

March 5, 2019 is SMU Giving Day

One Day. For 24 hours the entire SMU community will come together to give back and celebrate the causes we care about. What can we do in one day? Help spread the word about what matters to you with #SMUOneDay.

Why Donate?

In 24 hours, we can do anything and everything, as long as we do it together. By supporting SMU, you make an immediate impact for our students, faculty and staff, and help make the university the best it can be – creating change on campus and around the globe.
