Christian Legal Society

The Christian Legal Society seeks to provide students with community and fellowship within the law school by organizing speakers, Bible studies, service events and other programs. Thank you for considering a gift in support of the Christian Legal Society this Giving Day.

Civil/Consumer Clinic

For 75 years, Civil/Consumer Clinic has provided representation of low-income clients in Dallas-area federal and state courts. One of the features of the clinic is its ability to partner with local advocates to address the needs of the community as they arise. Whether helping families affected by a natural disaster; people navigating the pandemic; or seniors, tenants, consumers or persons with disabilities, clinic faculty and students provide direct representation and legal information to people who need it most. 

$5 plus $1 per page for certified copies of public records

$22 - Jury fee in justice court

$134 - Filing and service fee for a case in justice court

$350 - Filing fee (no service) in Dallas County Court at Law

Corporate Externship Program

SMU Dedman Law is home to the premier corporate counsel externship program in the country. Each year, over 100 law students participate in this innovative academic program that combines a corporate counsel class with externships in corporate legal departments. The capstone learning experience supplements our rich business law curriculum with hands-on experience. Gifts will support program resources and networking events for law students. Your backing will have a lasting impact on the education and development of our students.

Cox Community Scholarship Fund

Giving to the Cox Community Scholarship Fund gives all members of the Cox community a direct way of supporting high-potential students from underrepresented groups seeking to attend the Cox School's graduate and BBA programs. This enables us to show our support for future and current students and expand their opportunities to attend the Cox School of Business.

Cox School Latino Leadership Initiative Fund

Every student should have a chance to attend college. The SMU Cox School of Business helps students achieve their dreams by providing programs that explore college and career readiness, innovation and entrepreneurship. As the nation's only business school-based center of excellence dedicated to cultivating and growing today's and tomorrow's Latino business leaders, the SMU Cox Latino Leadership Initiative (LLI) plays an instrumental role in helping Hispanic/Latino and other students attend and successfully complete college. All LLI summer camps, summits, workshops and college experiences are provided at no cost to the students attending. Donations will help cover transportation, food and materials for students. Help us develop a stronger college pipeline!

Creative Computation Research Fund

Creative computing combines theory and methodology from computer science and engineering with aesthetic principles and creative practice from the arts. An interdisciplinary program spanning the Meadows School of the Arts and Lyle School of Engineering, Creative Computation sponsors student and faculty fellowships, workshops and lectures that facilitate interdisciplinary creative development and research. Your support on SMU Giving Day will contribute to a research fund that supports next-generation AI and software libraries.

Criminal Clinic

Students enrolled in the Criminal Clinic provide representation to indigent individuals facing misdemeanor and felony criminal consequences in Dallas County, including such charges as theft, DWI, criminal trespass, unlawful carry, assault and even revocation of felony probation. The clinic's areas of representation are not confined to these specific examples; the clinic has for almost half a century adapted to the needs of the current and contemporary Dallas community. Funds raised can support the cost of a trial transcript that clinic faculty use as a teaching tool with students as they prepare for their own trials.

Cultural Festival hosted by Graduate International Business Club

Each year, the Graduate International Business Club hosts the Cultural Festival celebrating cuisines and traditions of regions they call home. The event draws over 300 people to enjoy booths, performances and activities. Funds that are contributed on SMU Giving Day will support the Cultural Festival specifically for food booths and entertainment. The International Business Club aims to enhance the professional, cultural and social experience of the international Cox MBA student. Specifically, the club aims to:

-Increase exposure of international Cox MBA students to prospective employers.

- Promote and build relationships with companies that are open to sponsoring international Cox MBA students for employment.

- Act as a platform for expressing ideas and voicing concerns for the international Cox MBA student.

- Promote cultural and social understanding among peers, faculty, staff and the community.

Dean's Research Council

The Dean's Research Council (DRC) provides seed funding for high-impact faculty research, helping secure larger national and international grants. Every $1 invested yields a five-year average of $22 in external funding. DRC support has helped elevate Dedman College to Carnegie Research One status. In a competitive funding climate, programs like the DRC are vital to sustaining strong research and enriching student education. Every dollar donated goes directly to support faculty research.

Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center

The Deason Center provides an exclusive learning opportunity for students who are passionate about criminal legal reform and eager to understand how lawyers help shape public policy. Exceptional incoming students who demonstrate an interest in these topics will be invited to interview for the Deason Center's criminal law scholarship. Money raised will help fund scholarships for these outstanding SMU law students.

Deason Innovation Gym

The Deason Innovation Gym is the technical leader for Dallas-Fort Worth makerspaces and is open to the entire SMU community: students, faculty, staff and alumni. The DIG provides all the resources for your next innovative idea. Our DIG staff can train you on a variety of equipment that can make your current ideas come to life. We have weekly training courses and workshops and offer one-on-one training and assistance as needed. We provide expert advisors and speakers to help you explore new ideas and innovations, whether personal creativity or business related. Entrepreneurs can create prototypes and get expert advice. The Deason Innovation Gym is accessible 24/7 and provides free materials. All DIG programming and resources are supported through your generous donations. Dedman College Scholars Fund

The Dedman College Scholars Program awards $15,000 annual scholarships to 25-30 outstanding students majoring in Dedman College. Founded in 2009, it builds a diverse, close-knit community of passionate learners and leaders. In addition to financial support, scholars benefit from participation in University Honors Program curriculum, academic and social events, faculty and peer mentoring, and advanced research opportunities - empowering them to excel at SMU and beyond. These scholarships enable Dedman College to recruit the best and the brightest, with some Dedman College Scholars winning major national awards, such as the Barry Goldwater Scholarship.
